BBQ and Bluegrass in the Smokies!

Move over, Appalachia, there are two more mountains coming to our area in the month of May – the mountain of meat that will be cooked and prepared beyond perfection at not one but TWO (very similarly named) events in downtown Sevierville and Dollywood and the… well, a “mountain” of bluegrass artists that are coming to perform at the events is a pretty awkward phrase for it, but still, two huge feasts of very Southern iconic elements are coming here very soon and they are both very easy to get to from Dandridge, TN!

The first is the Bloomin’ BBQ and Bluegrass festival in downtown Sevierville around the courthouse on May 18th and May 19th. It’s notable for being pretty much the only event to take place around the historic Sevier County courthouse, but that quickly gets more than made up with with all the food booths, BBQ cooks, cookers, family fun stuff and artists that play on a stage built at the north part of the establishment. On the nearby streets and alleys, other folks will set up tables and tents and sale locally made foods, crafts, clothes and much more.

Their website states: “Sevierville’s Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass is a family oriented event celebrating the beauty of spring, championship barbeque and world class bluegrass music. Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass takes place during Smoky Mountain Springfest in historic downtown Sevierville, Tennessee. Our Barbeque Cook-Off is an official barbeque championship of the state of Tennessee and is coordinated by the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce. [Event times are] Friday May 18th from 5pm to 10pm and Saturday, May 19th from 9am to 10pm.”

And then after that, we have Dollywood’s Barbeque and Bluegrass that goes from May 25th to June 10th at the famous amusement park in Pigeon Forge. It’s even more BBQ fashioned by some expert BBQ makers and some of the best Bluegrass artists and groups in performance today, artists that include:

* Blue Highway
* ClayBank
* Dailey & Vincent
* Dale Ann Bradley
* Darin & Brooke Aldrige
* Darrell Webb Band
* Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver
* Fireside Collective
* Flatt Lonesome
* Hank, Pattie and The Current
* High Fidelity
* Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers
* Lonesome River Band
* Molly Tuttle
* Mountain Faith
* NewTown
* Nu-Blu
* Phil Leadbetter and The All-Stars of Bluegrass

Get your belly full of sweet, tangy and smoky BBQ and your ears filled with pickin’-and-grinnin’ goodness with the two BBQ and Bluegrass Festivals of May in the Smokies!
