Christmas in the Smokies

This is the big week! As you might imagine, Christmas time in the Smokies is quite a big deal and we see thousands and thousands of family come in closer and closer to 25th – much of whom come in not knowing what all may be available for special events. In East Tennessee, many of the celebrations occur early in December (and some in November) to build holiday spirit (hype) for visitors, but there are some events that are currently going on beyond the 25th for those staying here for the vacation period.

These are some great recommendations and you’ll be able to get to them no more than an hour’s drive:

Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland
Located right where Sevierville turns into Kodak on Highway 66, Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland turns the Smokies Baseball Stadium into that which truly lives up to the name “Christmas Wonderland”. Shadrack’s includes Santa’s Village, inflatable entertainment for kids, and some of the most brilliant lighting displays ever made. See more on this at www.shadrackchristmas.com/sevierville.

Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas
Is it any wonder the best Christmas activity in Pigeon Forge comes from Dollywood? The entire park transforms and the decorations are unrivaled by anyone for miles. Lights reach from the entrance all the way to the very tall trees, rides, and even out to the furthest corners of Dollywood. The hours stay open later, the rides operate in the dark (unless it’s too cold), there is a Santa’s workshop, nightly parades, carolers and, yes, much more. See more on Dollywood at www.dollywood.com.

Gatlinburg, TN.
While Gatlinburg doesn’t quite have a Winter Wonderland event like the Shadrack’s Christmas or Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas, you can pretty much consider the city itself in a state of Christmas-time fun for the family. There are several areas throughout the city limits that are intentionally designed to be quaint or retain the old atmospheres of our Appalachian roots like The Village, the Arts and Crafts Community and several areas along Highway 321 and these places are simply wonderful places to go shopping and exploring with maybe an older family set. See what Gatlinburg can offer you at www.gatlinburg.com.

Wowee, that should be enough entertainment right there for the whole week! The Smokies offer an incredible away of reasons for a family to come out to East Tennessee and we would like to be your home away from home any time of this year or any other!

Merry Christmas from all of us at Lakefront Cabins!
