Near Dandridge, Douglas Lake and between Kodak, TN and Sevierville, TN is another big water body and Summer fun draw – the French Broad River. The French Broad River is a truly impressive geographical locale, it starts in Transylvania County (!) in North Carolina, has a length of over 210 miles, and offers numerous fishing and paddling opportunities. It also connects to the Pigeon River in Cocke County also near Dandridge from the east of us as well as the Nolichucky.
For those interested in paddling the French Broad (go ahead and laugh, it’s a local joke around here, too), there are many stores along or near Highway 66 that furnish kayaks, boats and other floating fun things – Bass Pro Fishing, Coleman Outlet, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Ollie’s in Sevierville, K-Mart in Sevierville and others. There are several businesses as well that can provide adventures and rentals such as:
French Broad Adventures
River Sports Outfitters
French Broad Dude Ranch
For fishing, the river, as it downstream of Douglas Dam, is a warmwater tailwater and you can expect to find Lake Sturgeon, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, white bass, skip jack shad and even some striper. Companies that provide fishing services are:
River Smallie Adventures
3 Rivers Angler
Enjoy the waters and rivers while you’re here in the Smokies!
